We’re going On Holiday with this new collection, hand cut from a mid-century Elkes Fine English Assorted Biscuits tin produced in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Each piece features illustrated signs from real inns across the United Kingdom—some of which are still open today!
The White Hart – Witley, Surrey
Believed to be one of England’s oldest pubs, The White Hart was once tied to King Richard II, whose emblem inspired its name. The sign, later repainted by notable artists Birket Foster and Alfred Cooper, now lives in museum collections while the pub continues to welcome guests.
Petworth Rd, Witley, Godalming GU8 5PH, United Kingdom
The Smiths Arms – Godmanstone, Dorset
Dating back to 1420, The Smiths Arms began as a blacksmith’s forge before becoming one of England’s smallest pubs. Legend has it that King Charles II once stopped by and granted it a license to serve drinks. Though now closed, the thatched flint building still stands—a charming piece of history frozen in time!
